Specialised freezer vessels that undertake longer sea trips use state of the art blast freezers onboard to ensure optimum product quality and taste. These freezer vessels are inspected by the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) in order to ensure that they meet appropriate standards.

The vessels and crew must meet equally stringent hygiene standards to those of onshore processing plants. When they achieve the standard they are awarded an Approval Number which allows them to place products direct from the vessel onto the market place.
